# Tools

> Every tool the Taskadence MCP server offers, by group — read-only, write or destructive, the scopes it needs, its arguments and what to ask for.

**What this is:** the 52 tools a client can call, in 12 groups, and what each needs. **When you need it:** choosing the scopes to approve, or checking what an agent is able to do.

## Choosing groups

A connection gets 11 groups unless its URL names some: every group except **admin**. Two query parameters narrow it, and the server enforces them — a tool outside them is neither listed nor callable:

`readonly=1` keeps only read-only tools. `groups=` keeps the groups you name; **me** (`whoami`) is always on. The **admin** group — every deleting tool — must be named, and needs a token with the `admin` scope as well.

The **Organization** group only reads — the organization, its members and designations, with `members:read` (which `org:read` includes). Inviting, changing roles and removing people stay in the app, by design; see [security](https://docs.taskadence.com/mcp/security/).

## Annotations

Every tool carries a `title`, `readOnlyHint`, `destructiveHint`, `idempotentHint` and `openWorldHint` (always false: every tool acts inside your organization). Clients use them to ask you before a change.

## Scopes

A tool needs the scopes of the [API operations](https://docs.taskadence.com/reference/) it calls, shown on each card. A token without them does not see the tool. See [scopes](https://docs.taskadence.com/guides/authentication/#scopes).

## Every call is recorded

Each tool call writes one event to your organization’s audit log — the tool, whether it worked and the token’s name, never what was sent or returned. A task created through MCP is marked as such (`created_via`), so it is traceable to the connection. A task an agent creates waits for a person to review it — see [security](https://docs.taskadence.com/mcp/security/#agent-tasks-are-reviewed).
